The Problem to be solved: Sugarcane is a premier commercial crop of the world and India is largest sugar consuming country and supporting more than 50 million families by generating revenue and employment. It is cultivated on around 51 lakh h of land while in UP it has been reported on around 27.40 lakh h of land. Conventionally, it is grown by vegetative means in the form of sets of mature cane bearing two to three buds in the rows, requires around 5-7 tons per hectare (nearly 10% of the produce) and accounts about 20% of total inputs against cost of cultivation. This bulky seed cane creates lot of logistic problems and cumbersome in handling and storage as it undergoes rapid deterioration and prone to contamination. Moreover, there is another challenge in sugarcane cultivation among the farmers is the invasion of soil born pathogen in the seed cane over a period, which compels them along with sugar mill authorities to switchover for a disease-free planting material of high quality. Release of disease-free new varieties are again a challenge among the scientists/ breeders because before launching, it requires a series of steps in multiplying to fulfill the bulk demand from breeder to foundation and then certified seed cane. The method of elimination of disease and virus in seed cane is possible by heat or chemical treatment. These techniques have their own constraints in treating the seed cane as the process of thermal treatment is tedious, energy consuming and resulted by poor germination due to uncontrolled heating process thus, very limited number of farmers adopt the processes. Another technique of true to type sugarcane plants propagation is based on tissue culture technology. The production of ready to transplant tissue cultured saplings are costly affair thus, individual plant costs are very high which cannot be afforded by marginal farmers. To mitigate the above concerns a most promising technique for rapid availability of disease free true to type cultivars has been introduced for mass propagation of sugarcane plants in portrays/ nursery beds using single bud of a certified variety grown in an appropriate soil less media and adopting a new method of advantageous sugarcane farming system by Transplanting Single Bud Sapling (TSBS) in the field. The advantages of this TSBS technique are- 1. Saving in seed material as less quantity of seed cane (1-1.5 t/h) is required. 2. More number of tillers/ water shoots (7-8) and all convert into millable cane. 3. Saving of one month in sowing the crop because one-month old ready to plant saplings of sugarcane will be transplanted in the field. 4. Average weight of individual canes will be more than traditional farming due to more possibility of PAR & air due to keeping minimum 4 feet distance between row to row hence, the yield will also be more (>700-800 q/h). 5. Easy in intercultural practices and intercropping due to proper spacing between row to row hence, chances of more income per capita area. 6. Easy to install drip/ sprinkler fertigation and irrigation system consequently, can be feasible for judicial use of water and fertilizers. Keeping in view the advantages of TSBS system of sugarcane Cane Concerns and Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (CATIONS) has developed its prototype in the School of agricultural sciences (SoAS) IIMT University, Meerut. After a successful prototype, determine to start this gigantic task as a start-up venture under the flagship of IIMTU Incubation Center
